Rapid urbanization induced daily maximum wind speed decline in metropolitan areas: A case study in the Yangtze River Delta (China)

چکیده
Wind extremes cause many environmental and natural hazard related problems globally, particularly in heavily populated metropolitan areas. However, the underlying causes of maximum wind speed variability urbanized regions remain largely unknown. Here, we investigated how rapid urbanization Yangtze River Delta (YRD), China, impacted daily (DMWS) between 1990 2015, based on near-surface (10 m height) DMWS observations, reanalysis datasets, night-time lighting data (a proxy for urbanization). The station observation shows that annual YRD significantly (p < 0.05) declined during 1990–2015, by −0.209 s−1 decade−1, while slightly > 0.1) positive trends were found NCEP-NCAR1 (+0.048 decade−1) ERA5 (+0.027 decade−1). An increasing divergence output since 2005 was found, those stations located areas with high rates show strongest negative trend, implying key role weakening DMWS. This finding is supported sensitivity experiments conducted using a regional climate model (RegCM4) forced both 2015 land-use land-cover (LULC) data, where simulated LULC lower than data.

Impacts of urbanization on net primary productivity in the Pearl River Delta, China
Great changes in land use/land cover from rapid urbanization have occurred in the PearlRiver Delta, China. As the primary cause of land development in the urbanization process, urban expansion has mostly occurred on land with higher NPP, significantly impacting theregional ecosystems. The primary purpose of this study was to reveal the impacts of urbanexpansion on the regional NPP. The land cove...
متن کاملAssessing the Atmospheric Oxygen Balance in a Region of Rapid Urbanization: A Case Study in the Pearl River Delta, China
Oxygen is a product of photosynthesis and is essential for human survival. It also has a profound effect on ecosystems as the atmospheric oxygen balance is the basis for regional ecological sustainability. The Pearl River Delta (PRD) has experienced rapid urbanization and has become one of China’s three major urban agglomerations. This study focused on the oxygen balance of the PRD in 2011, and...

Landless peasants have been a great concern for both the government and academics in China. Entrepreneurship is promoted as one of the most important approaches to achieving civilization and urbanization. However, few studies have systematically examined the influencing factors of landless peasants’ entrepreneurial intention (EI). This research gap presents barriers for making effective policie...
